What did Dr Graham think of social media? Given that he was born in 1861, it’s hard to be completely sure.
Then again, as a globetrotting writer, campaigner, and speaker, it’s fair to say he would have been intrigued by the outreach opportunities.
Instagram is one of the top four social media platforms in the world, with two billion monthly active users. Or 2,000,000,001, to be precise - because, this week, we’re officially launching our very own DGHUK instagram channel. And we’d love you to be part of it!
A new way to follow DGHUK
Like thousands of other charities in the UK, we’ll be using our instagram to explain who we are as a charity and what we’re up to. Every week, we’ll post new stories, pictures and videos that tell you more about Dr Graham’s Homes and the children we sponsor. Many of our readers will be friends and supporters who know all about the Homes. But we also want the channel to be a forum for people who are completely new to the charity - so they can catch the vision and, hopefully, join us on the journey!
How you can get involved…
We’d like to tell as many people as possible about the channel, so we can spread the message about DGHUK and the sponsorship scheme. This is where you come in! Please visit our channel and follow us today - and encourage friends and family members to follow us too. It will help us to grow our following and reach more people over the coming months.
New to instagram?
Vaguely heard of instagram but have absolutely no idea how it works or how to sign up? Don’t worry! We’ve created a quick article to help you find your feet: DGHUK on instagram: a guide for complete beginners.
Here are some of the types of stories you can expect to see on our instagram…
News and updates
When a new blog or article goes live on the website, we’ll let you know about it on instagram as well. You can find it quickly by clicking the link in our bio at the top of our instagram page (see the red arrow below!):
Stories about people
The Homes have touched and transformed thousands of lives. We’ll be reflecting that with stories about the sponsors, children and students who support or go to this great institution, and how it has impacted them.
Historical snippets
DGHUK has an incredibly rich history, going all the way back to its foundation in 1901 under Dr Graham. We’ll be reaching into the archives to explore some of the great stories and pictures from the past, like DGH’s links to the early Everest expeditions.
Graphics and quotes
Statistics are a good way to help newcomers understand how DGHUK works. For instance, how much does it cost to sponsor a child or student? How many children do we currently sponsor? And so on. We’ll be highlighting some inspirational quotes from Dr Graham too.
