September is shaping up to be a very exciting month for our sponsored children.
The school is marking its 125th anniversary with several days of parties, dinners and events, from a service in the Katherine Graham Memorial Chapel to art and science exhibitions, inter-Cottage competitions and much more. Hundreds of alumni and supporters from across the globe will be visiting Kalimpong to celebrate with them.
One of the things the pupils are most looking forward to is the Quasquicentennial Sponsored Run & Walk, a special charity event that takes place on Saturday 20 September around Deolo Hill - the campus site where Dr Graham founded his ground-breaking home for vulnerable children 125 years ago.
The event will start in Kalimpong town's Municipality Office and finish on the School Top Fields, with two routes for pupils and visitors who want to take part. The main route is a 12.5km sponsored run, but there's also a 5km heritage walk for anyone who doesn't quite have the stamina for a pelt through the Himalayan foothills at 5,500ft altitude!
How you can help!
The school says the birthday run is open to everyone, "whether you're a proud OGB, a current student, a parent, a well-wisher, or a fitness enthusiast. Participants will enjoy breathtaking views, lush greenery, and the warm hospitality of Kalimpongâs local residents along the way." But if, like most of us, you aren't able to be in Kalimpong this September, you can still get involved from further afieldâŚ
Donate to the children's fundraising
Many of the children we sponsor at Dr Graham's Homes will be taking part in the event. Each of them is helping to raise sponsorship money for the school, and they would be so grateful if you could help them with their fundraising. You can make a donation right here on the DGHUK website. Just head to our Donate section and, when entering your details, tick the option: "Is this donation for the children's 125th Birthday run?".
