THE UK COMMITTEE

------------------------

In 1989 The London Committee merged with the long established Scottish Committee to become known as THE UK COMMITTEE.

The Committee’s function is to promote Dr Graham’s Homes, to provide financial support for deprived and destitute Anglo Indian children through the Child Sponsorship Scheme, and to provide funds for the upkeep of the properties.

The Committee aims to raise over £150,000 per year through fundraising events and is grateful for donations received from Well-wishers, Annual Subscriptions, Trust Funds, Legacies, Churches, Schools and Sponsorship.

Through such support the Committee in recent years has financed some major restoration projects including The Catherine Graham Memorial Chapel, The Swimming Pool, The Steel memorial Clinic and The Lucia King Nursery and well as upgrading Cottages and roads and the refurbishment of some classrooms. However the focus of the work centres round the children from deprived areas of Kolkata as well as the surrounding districts.

Apart from the financial support there have been many students who have given valuable voluntary assistance at the Homes during their GAP year. Student placements are undertaken by GAP Activity Projects and Students with a preference to work in Dr Graham’s Homes should contact – The Project Director (North East India), GAP Activity Projects (GAP) Limited, GAP House, 44 Queen’s Road, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 4BB. Tel: 0118 959 4914.
