VISITORS FROM CALCUTTA

A successful Annual General Meeting
AGM, Edinburgh May 17th. 2017

DGH

The Annual General Meeting was held at the Royal Overseas League in Edinburgh on the 17th. May 2017 and we were very pleased to welcome Dr. Gillian Hart and Mr. Shane Calvert, Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Management of the Homes.  They had come to the UK at the invitation of the UK Committee and although we have had Principals of the Homes visit we have never had the Chair of the Board of Management.

The AGM business was expeditiously conducted to allow maximum time for Dr. Hart to speak to supporters, donors and sponsors and then to answer questions. Dr Hart gave a very enlightening and encouraging talk on the status of the Homes and expressed her gratitude for both the support and encouragement  received from the UK Committee she also thanked Alistair McCabe  for the recent tour which was very successful in  generating support and provided several gifts for the Cottages.

The AGM was also attended by the Moderator designate of the Church of Scotland, the Rev.  Derek Browning and the Primus of Scotland, the Most Reverend David Chillingworth.  Both gentlemen are Hon. Presidents of the UK Committee. The AGM was followed by a Curry Lunch which was attended by over 80 people and this gave our guests from India the opportunity to speak informally to supporters.

The following day the Indian visitors went to Glasgow where they again met and spoke with supporters. The next day, at the invitation of Head Teacher, Linda Clarkson, they visited Barassie Primary School in Troon, which has been sponsoring children at Dr. Graham's Homes for 40 years.

The final stage of their Scottish visit was a visit to Arran, where they stayed with Rev. and Mrs. John Webster and met with many supporters on the island.

Before returning to India, they accepted an invitation to meet the Kalimpong Association in London, where Margaretta Purtill hosted lunches well attended by OGB’s and friends of Kalimpong. The visit was well received on both sides and certainly gave Dr. Hart and Mr. Calvert a better understanding of the depth of support and dedication for Dr. Graham's Homes here in the UK.
